Val draws from a variety of subject matter to shape her vision of the moods of nature from the simple glory of colourful blooms to the commanding power of a sweeping coastline.
Predominantly working with the richness of pastel, other mediums are used if they will more effectively tell the story.
Originally Val studied art at Swinburne and then proceeded with it as a sub-major towards her Bachelor of Education.
Val works from her studio/gallery in West Gippsland. She has received recognition for her work, particularly seascapes, with recent awards including Bass Coast Shire Award, Lakes Entrance Rotary, Halls Gap Rotary and Port Fairy Lions Art Show Awards for best pastel, and Best Local Artist at Warragul Rotary.
She is a member of both Berwick and Sherbrooke artist societies, and has held successful exhibitions of her work in the Dandenong Ranges, Malvern, Port Fairy and her studio in Drouin West.
She was a featured artist at the recent "Out On A Limb" exhibition held at the Serigraph Gallery, Neerim South."The Whale Bone Gallery " Port Fairy is an ideal venue to share her view of the South West Region and Val has held several exhibitions at this venue.Val"s work is currently exhibited at galleries in Sherbrooke, Killarney and Lakes Entrance.
